Troubleshooting Issues

The battery always seems low / the battery doesn’t last very long.

Manufacturers advise that eReaders, like mobile phones, should be charged for 24 hours before their first use in order to maximise the battery power. eReaders can be charged on the computer via their USB cable. To enable faster charging, you can also purchase a USB mains adapter. For further information, please see the User Guide provided by the manufacturer with the eReader.

My eReader screen is frozen and unresponsive.

There may be a number of issues contributing to this:

  • This may be caused by a low battery. eInk screens do not always go blank when the battery runs out. Try to charge it again. It may take an hour of charging for the eReader to function again.
  • This could also be the result of a firmware issue, where the manufacturer has updated the eReader’s software. Links for updating the firmware for each of the eReaders stocked by Eason in the past are available here.

Please note: this firmware update must be installed on an SD card first and then inserted into the device for updating.

This problem can also often be solved by resetting or ‘rebooting’ the eReader. Instructions on how to do this are available in each of the eReaders’ user guides.

You can reduce the risk of your device freezing by ensuring any files you download are compatible with the eReader, and that you do not unplug the device while in the process of transferring files.

The screen on my eReader appears to be cracked / has black horizontal and vertical lines running across the screen.

My eReader will not appear on my computer.

Unplug the device’s USB cable and try inserting it in another port. If the device remains unrecognised, reset/reboot your device as per the manufacturer’s instructions. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact us at ebooks@easons.com.
